History of Handbags

Handbags have now become an iconic status. We buy a handbag for every event and our eventual aim is to have a Designer make. Hand bags are very essential for women because the women cannot manage without them. If we look back into the history of handbags, we will come to know that the first recognized use of handbags is in the fourteenth century hieroglyphics which shows that the men use to carry little pouches around their waists called ˜girdles'. But in the late eighteenth century puffed skirts were thrown out of fashion especially for women and close fitting dresses became the new fashion for the women. Later on leather and embroidered handbags became quite famous as handbags begin to harmonize their clothes and women had diverse handbags for various events. Perfume, smelling salts and visiting cards were carried by the females in their handbags and these handbags were known as reticules.

It was in the late 1900s that the word ˜handbag' first used to express satchels and briefcases carried by men. But women handbags designer made alike versions to suit womanly requirements including small compartments for glasses, gloves, fans and makeup Accessories.

The time after the First World War finished was a time of great freedom for women and a more sovereign approach to women appearance and this is when handbags truly became essential accessories. Recently the trend in handbags is to make the handbags of wool and tweed like the Autumn Rose etc.
